My husband and I went to New Braunfels, Texas for the Easter weekend. We went to Fredericksburg, Texas last year as a kind of honeymoon and we liked the Hill Country so much that we decided to make it a tradition. One attraction of New Braunfels was the Natural Bridge Caverns, several underground caverns that have been developed into a kind of amusement park. We toured two of the caverns and they were impressive enough for me to get over the knowledge of cave crickets.
All photos my own. In tricky lighting. With no tripod.
Besides the natural beauty of what we were seeing, I was taken with a couple of points: thinking of how LONG these caverns were there before being discovered by some college students in the 1960s. What are we missing that is right there in front of us? What are we walking right over with hidden depths and wonder? Also, the tour guide said that the formations grow at a rate of 1 cubic inch every one hundred years. Why am I so impatient with my own growth? Granted, I don’t have a century, but I’m also moving faster than mineral deposits. I’ll be reflecting on this for awhile.
The last thing that captivated me were the textures in the caverns. I plan on pulling these into Adobe Photoshop and making some texture swatches for use in Adobe Illustrator.
What is your main area of targeted growth right now?
